Milan for the day

As we were staying in Genoa, I thought it would be nice to go to Milan for the day. If you book it in advance, the train is really cheap and it’s only a two hour journey. We were expecting a very overcrowded touristy and luxury orientated place, which to be honest was the case. But not only! We were struck by the diversity of the city. Of course, there is the incredible Piazza del Duomo but there are also canals, small streets, the huge Sforza Castello… We didn’t have time to visit the museums but they are said to keep some of the best European paintings. We are itching to go back!

The only monument we visited was the Duomo. I always feel a bit indecisive when it comes to going into very famous places because usually they are packed, sometimes not as fascinating as you imagined, and often you don’t even appreciate any of it. It was not the case for this! I knew the facade was amazing but I hadn’t realized how massive the whole cathedral really is. The hundreds of pillars inside give it such an imposing architecture! If you ever go to Milan, JUST GO INSIDE.

We also manage to go to the area with the canals, called navigli. I was actually quite blown away by this part of Milan because I had never heard of it before. Suddenly it seemed like we were in Amsterdam! This quarter has less tourists which makes it even more enjoyable.

Of course, we had a long wander around the centre of Milan, notably the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It is such an incredible place and I highly recommend going to see it at different times of the day, as the light changes a lot there.

As you can see, Milan was a real unexpected positive discovery for me and I can’t wait to go back.
What about you, have you been there? Did you enjoy it?
